India wasted very little time in completing its series against the West Indies
Shubman Gill-led India took just an hour to sweep the series against a struggling West Indies. India defeated the West Indies by seven wickets in the second Test on the fifth morning in Delhi. The win moved the hosts to third place in the early stages of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, behind only Australia and Sri Lanka. India needed 121 runs to win, with 58 required on the final day. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 58 off 108 balls, guiding the team to victory alongside Dhruv Jurel, who was 6 not out. Rahul struck six fours and two sixes, sharing a 79-run partnership for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 39.
India scored a staggering 518 runs for the loss of just five wickets, with Yashasvi Jaiswal contributing 175 and Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten on 129, setting the tone for India’s commanding performance in the first innings. The West Indies offered some resistance, led by centurions John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103), along with a stubborn 10th-wicket partnership on the spinning track at Feroz Shah Kotla. Across both Tests, Indian bowlers claimed 40 wickets, with pacers performing admirably on unhelpful surfaces and spinners showing patience and resilience.
Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav was named Player of the Match for his eight-wicket haul, while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja deservedly claimed Player of the Series for his brilliant performances with both bat and ball.
